At present, most popular trend in photography is mobile photography. Once upon a time, there were some experts in art and technology. They used a big box covered with black cloth. Inside, they did magic! People saw their pictures on paper and were surprised. The pictures looked just like them in front of the box.

DSLR trend

Time passed, and the big box became a small one. More technical stuff was added. People loved this small box, but it still needed an expert. They had to know about light, color, and angles. This small box is called a camera, or in the digital age, a DSLR. The person using this is a photographer. Their skill is measured by how well they know art and tech. They use terms like aperture, ISO, and shutter speed.

Companies like Nikon, Canon, Fuji, Sony, and Minolta make cameras. They work hard to capture images in different lights and with still or moving subjects. Their research helps create new opportunities for photo lovers. Different camera models and lenses open up new styles of photography.

These styles include portrait, landscape, street, sports, stage and wildlife photography. Camera makers want more people to know about their products. They created tools so beginners can take great pictures using the camera’s processor or sensor.

Trend to generalize

It’s true that there might be less artistic input, but the camera still captures good-looking images. The trend introduced autofocus, which is easier than the old split and manual focus. New features like auto ISO and auto white balance became available. Camera makers also added shutter priority mode and aperture priority mode for more control.

Recently, they added scene options like landscape, portrait, sports, and flash modes. These features encourage beginners to buy cameras without needing expert photography skills. Makers honestly research and aim to build trust in their products with user-friendly options.

Smart phone trend

In 1992, IBM made a mobile phone with many features. It became popular as a smartphone. Companies like Samsung, Apple, Oppo, Nokia, and Motorola upgrade their phones every year. People are amazed by features like touchscreens, Wi-Fi, cloud storage, editing software, and filters.

smartphone camera

Nowadays, smartphones come with multiple built-in cameras that can take wide, telephoto, front, and rear-view shots. All functions are automatic.

Expensive smartphones allow users to adjust light, shutter speed, ISO, etc. Smartphones are ubiquitous among the general public. It’s common for people to instantly capture photos or videos of incidents without much photography knowledge.

Social media trend

Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube allow people to share their thoughts and media easily. Even without expertise, people capture and share images or events on social media, often receiving likes, comments, and opinions.

For instance, compare the past to now: In a 100-seat auditorium ten years ago, only a few photographers and one videographer were present at a dance program. Now, 70% of attendees record the event using their smartphones.

Conclusion

Once the event finishes, it is shared worldwide on social media. I don’t judge if it’s good or bad aesthetically for photography and videography, but it definitely creates a historical record.
