Hello! Friends. How are you? Today I want to explain my new photography idea, which is a continuous process in lockdown period against Covid-19.

Requirements:

  • A model [Undoubtedly Biyas for my photo shoot]
  • A stool with low height but very stable, sturdy and strong
  • A toy like car, doll etc.
  • A point and shoot camera
Photographer shoot picture in flying mode

How to or technique behind the process of “Photographer shoot picture in flying mode.”

First of all you have to search out a well-lighted room or roof top. Place the stool against a white or one coloured wall. It helps to cut the subject easily in photo editor.

If you choose roof top then try to catch the light between 8 am to 10 am or 4 pm to 5.30 pm. These times gives you the best result for your shooting. There is a soft light all around. Harsh or hard light creates objectionable dark shadows here and there in your composition and model too. So try to avoid it.

Ask your model to rest her hands upto elbow on the stool and hold the small camera looking through the viewfinder. Now recall the Pythagorean Theorem. According to Wikipedia – In mathematics, the Pythagorean Theorem, also known as Pythagoras’ theorem, is a fundamental relation in Euclidean geometry among the three sides of a right triangle. It states that the area of the square whose side is the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the areas of the squares on the other two sides. AC2 = AB2 + BC2

Visualize the composition is such a way that the eye position of your model in on A position, elbow resting on stool at B position and the toy car or doll will be at C position.

When the audience see your picture, they realize the model (photographer) really click the toy’s snap when she / he is flying mode.

Camera specification:

  • Go for landscape viewing point using the viewfinder.
  • Shutter speed: 1/250s or 1/320s
  • Aperture: f/5.6 or f/8
  • ISO: 200-400 based on light condition
  • Focus: Auto with AF-C

You are ready to click your composition. Sit on the floor and focus the palm of the model, which hold the point and shoot camera, viewing through the viewfinder.

Please note that model must use right eye for the point and shoot viewfinder. It gives her/him an extra balance when her hands carry the total body weight on flying position.

Now ask your model try to up both the legs in the air. The elbows of the model, which are resting on the stool carrying the full body weight. Be careful that the stool should be strong enough to carry the full body weight of the model as well as grab the same place on the floor.
Shoot picture as much as you can until and unless you are satisfied with your shot. However, time to time please give your model plenty of relax time, because it is a very tiring job for her/him.

Copy your files in computer and choose the best one. Open through your photo editor. I personally use Photoshop. So, I can discuss about the post processing method based on PS.

  • Create a new layer [ctrl + j]
  • Choose the quick selection tool [w] for the subject [photographer or model]
  • Eliminate the stool carefully when you select the subject [photographer or model]
  • Press control + j which helps to select only the subject in the new layer
  • Choose a background picture and inset it just below the newly created layer
  • You can insert a mask in the background picture layer for removing tit-bit errors
  • Save your file. All done.
