Lepchajagat – A Land Above The Clouds

LepchaJagat is a land above the clouds is a small hamlet situated in wilderness at an altitude of 6956 feet and only 19 km away from queen of hills, Darjeeling town. Although it’s quite close to the Darjeeling main hub and takes only about 45 minutes by taxi. It has a world of its own. It is a place to feel the silence and inner mind joy in dense forest of pines, oaks and rhododendrons. The mystic nature along with magnificent views of Kanchejangha.

Scenic beauty

More precisely it is located between two hill towns, Ghoom and Sukhiapokhri. It is famous for its scenic beauty on both sides of the Ghoom hill.

Ghum Railway Station

Ghum railway station is under Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. It is situated at an altitude of 2,258 meters. You can take a joy ride on the world-famous toy train. It runs in between New Jalpaiguri-Kurseong-Darjeeling. It is 8 km. from Lepchajagat. Due to landslide between Mahanadi and Gaybari station train services between NJP-DJ-NJP route has been disrupted since 20.10.2021 and every possible steps in this regards have been taken care of for early resumption of train services.

Other sides from Lepchajatat

From one side of the hill you can observe Meerik, Sukhiapokhri, Nepal border as well as the wide range of plain land of Nakshalbari. You can experience the mesmerizing view of snow pick mountains including majestic Kanchenjunga. You can also see the highest peak of West Bengal: Sandakphu. The dense populated Darjeeling town from the same side is very eye soothing.

How to reach:

One can reach Lepchajagat by car or share taxi from Siliguri Jn/NJP station/ Bagdogra Airport through various routs like via Tindharia-Kurseong-Ghum, via Rohini-Kurseong-Ghum or via Mirik-Sukhiapokhri. There are some other ways too. But the shortest route is via Rohini-Kurseong-Ghum- Lepchajagat. From Ghum, Lepchajagat is just 20-30 minutes away.
