Swastika Kala Kendra’s new production Ashoka (Chandashoka to Dharmashoka) mesmerized the audience based on their team effort, choreography and direction. Ashoka the Great, the scion of the Mauryan Empire, emerged as a pivotal figure in ancient Indian history. Born to Bindusara and the grandson of the empire’s founder, Chandragupta, Ashoka’s ascension to power involved a tumultuous act: the fratricidal elimination of his brothers to secure the throne. His reign, spanning from approximately 268 to 232 BCE in the imperial capital of Patliputra, unfolded against the backdrop of a transformative eventβthe Kalinga War.
